If you’re a vaper, you’ve probably heard someone describe a mouth to lung (MTL) hit or a direct to lung hit (DTL). The difference between mouth to lung and direct to lung vaping might be hard to envision if you’ve never vaped. If you’re a smoker or a vaper, you know that a mouth to lung hit isn’t too far off from what you do when you’re smoking a cigarette. You inhale, hold the vapor in your mouth and then breathe it into your lungs. Direct to lung vaping, on the other hand, bypasses the mouth and goes straight to your lungs.
Mouth to Lung Vaping
Since mouth to lung vaping is so much like smokers, most smokers prefer a MTL hit when they vape. With mouth to lung vaping, smokers also enjoy getting a more intense throat hit, especially when using high-PG juice like our Premium and WOW e-liquids. Most pod systems and e-cig starter kits (like the Vapor Zeus Starter Kit) are designed for mouth to lung vaping, which mimics the smoking experience and gives you a more satisfying throat hit and nicotine hit.
Direct to Lung Vaping
In essence, direct to lung vaping, or DTL vaping, cuts out the middle man. You inhale without holding the vapor in your mouth, so the effect is much like taking a deep breath into your lungs and letting it out. More advanced vapers often gravitate toward direct to lung hits because they’re easier to pull off with a sub-ohm vape system that stirs up a lot of clouds. Unlike high-PG liquid, the high-VG liquid used in a sub-ohm isn’t too powerful to use a direct to lung vaping technique.
Which is Better: Mouth to Lung or Direct to Lung
Like many things involved in vaping, it’s up to you to decide whether you prefer mouth to lung or direct to lung vaping. As a general rule of thumb, smokers and vapers who want a decent throat hit usually opt for mouth to lung vaping. If you’re more into the cloud tricks you can pull off, direct to lung vaping might be best for you. Or, you can stock up on both types of devices and switch it up whenever you want.
